Facilities

The Pelletier lab is one of the world’s best equipped fluorescence microscopy facilities.  We use state of the art microscope systems from Applied Precision to investigate protein localization at and beyond the conventional limits of light microscopy.  Our equipment includes:

-6 Delta-Vision Elite Microscopes. All systems are equipped with:

  • TruLight™ (Illumination System)
  • InsightSSI(Optimized solid state illumination)
  • UltimateFocus™ (Hardware based autofocus)
  • Microtiter Stage (for customized scanning of multi-well plates in x, y and z for increased image collection capabilities)
  • Environmental Chamber (precise temperature control to improve cell viability and minimize thermal drift for superior live cell imaging)

One of the systems is additionally equipped with:

  • X4 Laser Module (405, 488, 515, 561 lasers for various photobleaching techniques);
    • Multi-Line TIRF (chromatically corrected Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence microscopy).

All the microscopes share a number of Olympus objectives.

OMX BLAZE V4, equipped with:

  • Blaze™ SIM Module (ultra-fast, structured illumination module);
  • UltimateFocus™ (Hardware based autofocus);
  • InsightSSI(Optimized solid state illumination);
  • Multi-Line TIRF (chromatically corrected Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence microscopy);
  • Coming soon DeltaVision Monet™ (localization microscopy technique)

To store all the images generated on by our imaging suite we have a 45 Tb RAID 5 server. To further process them we use a High Performance Computing Cluster (25 x Dual Intel Xeon 6 core CPUs with 48 GB RAM each).

– InCell 6000: The IN Cell Analyzer 6000 is a high-end, laser-based, line-scanning confocal imaging platform. It is designed for high-throughput imaging and assay development. It can be used for live cell and endpoint assays as well 3-D imaging, co-localization studies and low signal assays.

The Pelletier Laboratory is part of the Network Biology Collaborative Centre (NBCC) at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute. NBCC is a national platform providing integrated solutions for functional genomics and proteomics. The centre is composed of complementary services that scientists can reciprocally and reiteratively employ. The Pelletier laboratory offers High Spatio-Temporal Resolution Imaging services, including designing low to high-resolution imaging pipelines of both fixed and live samples.
